MEMPHIS, TENN. --- The University of Memphis and the University of Mississippi have officially agreed to move the date for both teams' season opener to Sunday, September 3 in order for ESPN to broadcast the game nationally. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. CT at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.
"We are pleased that ESPN has selected this game for a national broadcast," said Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson. "Over the past three years, we have gained a great deal of national attention through appearances on network broadcasts and certainly believe that this broadcast will offer fans across the country an exciting game of college football."
The game will mark the 56th meeting between the two squads in what has become an intense rivalry. The Tigers are currently slated to appear on ESPN or CSTV four times this season. In addition to the Ole Miss meeting, ESPN has scheduled the Sept. 30 meeting with Tennessee for a national broadcast. CSTV, which Conference USA signed a long-term contract with last season, is slated to air the Oct. 21 game with Tulsa and the Nov. 11 contest with UCF.
