County officials learn of sexual harassment complaint

Action News Five is told that information started floating among officials Wednesday evening, after they got off work at the county building.

The information regards a sexual harassment complaint filed against a sitting Shelby County Commissioner.

Action News Five spoke with County Mayor AC Wharton about it.

Wharton could not tell us much because he says he has limited details.

Wharton says, "I have received verbal information that a sexual harassment complaint has been filed against a county commissioner."

Wharton went on to say that he does not know which commissioner is named in the complaint or which agency is handling it.

And Wharton could not confirm if it involves a staff member at the Shelby County Building.

Wharton tells us he has directed Chief Administrative Officer John Fowlkes to look into the matter and expects much more information Thursday.

Fowlkes could not comment on the investigation Wednesday night.
