Kidnapping victim tells harrowing survival story

Just one day after her rescue, Thuy Dung Cao spoke with Action News 5 Thursday to share her survival story.

"I just know I just have to live,” she said.  “I just want to survive.  I don't want to die.  I'm so young."

Looking at her Thursday, you would have never known what she went through, after the terror that unfolded Tuesday afternoon, when she said Binh Lam Ho showed up at her door.

"He was pointing that gun at me, and he said, ‘If you don't shut up I'll shoot you,’" she said.

Cao said Lam drove her around for hours, promising he would eventually take her home.

"I trusted in him,” she said.  “I believed him that he would take me home, but he lied.”

Instead, she said Lam put her in the trunk of his car, gagging and handcuffing her.

“I had trouble breathing, I was sweating, I thought I was going to die,” she said.

Police found Cao early Wednesday morning.

“God saved me,” she said. All the time I was in that trunk, I was praying the whole time.  I thought I was going to die.”

Home with her family Thursday, the 16-year-old said she was ready to move on with her life, though she admitted she will now be more wary of the people she meets.

Cao said she never wants see Binh Lam Ho again, and is eager for him to be officially charged and hopefully convicted.
