Mother of slain boy asks for justice

Martez Henderson's mother is pleading for someone to turn in her son's killer to police.

Brenda Henderson said it was as if time stood still when she learned her 11-year-old son was shot Thursday.

"I can't imagine the pain my baby went through. A child got a small heart. The bullet hit him in the heart."

Gunshots fired at the Ridgecrest Apartments Thursday, killed Martez and hurt his 4-year-old cousin.

Henderson said the community has rallied around her to support her in this time of tragedy, but she also needs another kind of support. One that would keep any parent from losing another child to violence.

"There are too many babies out here getting killed and something needs to be done about it," Henderson said.

She prays her son's killer will come to justice.

"Whoever done this, if anybody know anything about it, I wish they'd come forward. Say something."

For now, Henderson prepares to bury her son.

Police need your help finding Martez's killer. If you know anything about Thursdays shooting call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH. You can remain anonymous and get a reward for clues that lead to a conviction.
