QB's Almost Perfect Passing Game Leads to Third Weekly Award
SOUTHAVEN --- The af2 announced today that Memphis Xplorers QB Brian Jones has been named the Week 13 Schutt Offensive Player of the Week. Jones had just one incomplete pass as he was 22 of 23 passing for 281 yards and eight touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown in the Xplores' 81-53 win over South Georgia.
This is the third weekly award this season for Jones and the fourth of his career. He also won the award in Weeks Two and Ten this season and in Week Eight of the 2004 season.
The eight touchdown passes on Saturday were a personal career high for the former Toledo Rocket and matched the franchise high held by Tim Lester. Jones' season total of 68 touchdown passes is fifth in the league and puts him one touchdown shy of his career high of 69 from last season. Jones is second in the league with 82 total offensive touchdowns.
Jones, the league's top rated quarterback, has completed 69 percent of his passes for the season for 3167 yards and has thrown just seven interceptions.
The win over the Wildcats improved the Xplorers' record to 9-3 and kept them a half game behind South Division leading Florida. The Xplorers play three of their final four games on the road beginning with this Friday's game at Macon. Kickoff is at 6:30 CDT with all the action on 730 ESPN radio.
The Xplorers' next home game will be on July 15 versus Amarillo at the DeSoto Civic Center at 7pm.
