Memphis Police have captured a suspect wanted in the shooting of a 5-year-old in North Memphis.  Telly Johnson is charged with 5 counts of criminal attempt first degree murder.

Officers took Johnson into custody Tuesday after a brief foot pursuit.  When officers approached Johnson near Evergreen and Merchant, he fled into a nearby woods.  When officers caught up with Johnson, he resisted arrest, but was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Johnson was also charged with assault on an officer and resisting arrest.

The original charges against Johnson stem from an incident on June 29th, when officials say he fired shots into a van parked in a North Memphis neighborhood, striking a 5-year-old child seated inside.

Johnson will make an initial court appearance Thursday morning.
