With the NBA Draft in the Books, the Next Phase of the progression into next season tips off today with the opening of the Memphis Grizzlies Rookie-Free Agent Camp.
15-players are vying for the 12-spots up for grabs to make the teams' Summer Pro League Roster...
Of course, several players are guaranteed spots, like Grizz draftees Kyle Lowry, Memphis' First round pick from Villanova..
And Florida State Big Man Alexander Johnson, acquired in a second round trade.
For Lowry, running the show from the point is what he's done all his life..and at 6-feet tall, life just got tougher now he's in the NBA.
Lowry says proving his worth is nothing new, he had to do it in High School, and again in College at Villanova. He says he'll bring hard work and a winning attitude.
For Johnson, getting onto the court will take a little more time.
The 6'9", 250-pounder is nursing a sprained ankle injured in his last Grizzlies Workout last week..
He says when the lights go on, he'll be ready.
"I like to eat, so i'm going to compete!" says Johnson.
This is a succesful franchise, but i want to be a part of a team that wins that first playoff game."
Other sure bets to travel are Grizzlies second year players Hakim Warrick, and Lawrence Roberts, both big men looking for more playing time...and guard Anthony Roberson, who's stock may increase given the loss of Bobby Jackson to Free Agency.
