Former University of Memphis student sentenced in Federal Court

A former University of Memphis student was sentenced in Federal Court Friday.

Mahmoud Mawaad was sentenced to 13 months in prison for one count of wire fraud and one count of fraudulent use of a social security number.

Mawaad plead guilty in June to charges that he used the internet to fraudulently purchase pilot training materials from a pilot equipment and training material distributor.  Mawaad also plead guilty to using a fraudulent social security number to open a checking account.

Mawaad will be credited for time already served, and will be deported when his sentence is completed.
