Man accused of running over police officer in custody

Memphis police have arrested the man they believe ran over a fellow officer with an S.U.V.

LaSaidric Hart is in custody.  Police say the 27-year-old Hart wanted to turn himself in to police.  Officers took him into custody without incident.

On Tuesday night, Memphis Police officers were on the lot of Chelsea Express Grocery.  The officers approached a SUV on the lot occupied by a male later identified as Hart, on suspicion of drug charges.  Investigation revealed that as officers approached him, Hart put the 2005 Yukon into drive and drove toward one of the officers.  The suspect used the Yukon to push the officer approximately 40 feet before the officer fell to the ground and the suspect ran over the officer.   His partner fired several rounds in to the vehicle.

The injured officer, whose identity has not yet been released, was treated and released from the hospital with non-critical injuries.  He and his partner remain relieved of duty pending an Internal Affairs Investigation.
