Rebels' Willis Leads Coaches Pre-Season All-S.E.C. Football List

OLE MISS' WILLIS, OHER NAMED PRESEASON ALL-SEC BY COACHES

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss senior linebacker Patrick Willis was the only unanimous first team choice for the Southeastern Conference Coaches Preseason All-SEC Football Team, which was announced Thursday by the league office. Also, Rebel offensive tackle Michael Oher was selected to the third team.

Since coaches cannot vote for their own players, Willis was listed on 11 of the 12 ballots. The Bruceton, Tenn., native has received a wealth of honors this preseason, earning First Team All-America distinction from six different media outlets. Four of those publications tagged him as the nation's No. 1 inside linebacker.

Willis has been named to watch lists for the Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award, Lott Trophy and Nagurski Trophy. Last year, he led the NCAA in solo tackles per game and the SEC in total stops.

A sophomore from Memphis, Oher is garnering preseason all-conference accolades for the seventh time this summer. He was also labeled a Fourth Team Preseason All-America by Phil Steele's College Football Preview.

Oher started 10 games in his debut season in the Red and Blue and was a First Team Freshman All-America.

Ten of the 12 SEC teams had first-team selections and every conference school has representatives on the All-SEC squad. Of the 88 student-athletes named to the first, second and third teams, nine are sophomores, 26 are juniors and 53 are seniors.

This is the third year of the SEC Coaches Preseason All-SEC Football Team. It is released in advance of the 2006 SEC Football Media Days, which will be held July 26-28, at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala. Media in attendance at SEC Football Media Days will vote on the All-SEC Team and a predicted order of finish for the league.
