Minister's wife denied bond reduction on murder charge

A judge in Selmer refused Monday to lower the $750,000 bond for a minister's wife charged with murdering her husband.

Circuit Judge J. Weber McCraw declined to reduce the bond for Mary Winkler.

The judge said he considered the severity of the charge against Winkler and the fact she fled the area after the slaying and was located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Winkler has been jailed without bond since March 23rd on charges she murdered her husband Matthew at their Church of Christ parsonage.

She is scheduled for trial October 30th.

Authorities have said the Winklers had been arguing over finances and other family issues before Matthew was shot in the back in a bedroom.
