Incumbent law enforcement officials victorious

Shelby County voters gave the nod to two law enforcement incumbents in Thursday's election.

Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell, and District Attorney Bill Gibbons, both Republicans, won their bids for reelection.  Neither race was as close as some analysts predicted.

Sheriff Luttrell's campaign centered around his record over the last 4 years.  Luttrell has been credited with turning around the Shelby County Jail, which recently received national accreditation.

Gibbons credited his victory to what he called a strong record of targeting crime and corruption.

Both candidates said the key to their success was uniting Democrats and Republicans.  With election campaigns now behind them, both men said they looked forward to focusing on tracking down and prosecuting criminals.
