West Memphis newspaper building destroyed by blaze

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) - The Evening Times of West Memphis' building burned to the ground yesterday morning, destroying a printing press and all of the newspaper's equipment.

Officials don't yet know what caused the blaze, which began at about 5:30am Sunday. It burned for several hours, and firefighters finished dousing the blaze late morning.

Mike Bowie, editor of the Evening Times, says the building's roof collapsed, and all of the newspaper's property, including its printing press, classified ad records and computers, was destroyed in the blaze.

The afternoon newspaper publishes Monday through Friday. The paper has a second office in nearby Marion, from where they will temporarily work.

Bowie said that he hopes the paper could publish its Monday afternoon edition, but first they'd have to find a place to print it.
