Fines increase requested for Horn Lake court

HORN LAKE, Miss. (AP) - Horn Lake aldermen have been asked to increase fines levied in municipal court.

City Judge Jim Holland has proposed a $25.00 increase in court costs, boosting the minimum court costs for each conviction from $105.50 to $130.50.

In addition, his proposal calls for increasing the fines for traffic offenses from $25.00 to $100.00 in most cases. Holland says many of the city fine have been unchanged for 12 to 15 years.

He says some fines, such as those for drunken driving, are set by state law and can't be changed.

Holland said the proposed schedule likely will be offered to the board at the September 5th meeting.
