For 6-years Tony Barbee sat on John Calipari's bench as one of the University of Memphis' top basketball assistant coaches...
Now, he has his own program to run.
Barbee met the Media in El Paso, Texas today as UTEP's Head Basketball Coach.
The 35-year old Barbee is known as a premier recruiter.
He takes over a program that makes regular post-season appearances, and won it all in 19-66.
He says all he's known is basketball excellence, from his days as a player and assistant coach under John Calipari at UMASS, to his time as Memphis' lead recruiter.
Numerous N-I-T and NCAA Tournament runs, including last seasons' Elite 8 campaign with the Tigers.
Barbee credited his former Memphis Boss and Head Coach at UMASS John Calipari with mentoring him for this job.
He'll now face the Tigers on the court in Conference USA.
