Commuter Plane Crashes in Lexington, Kentucky

As many as 49 people are believed dead in Sunday morning's crash of a Comair plane in Lexington, Kentucky. One person is known to have survived.

Comair says Flight 5191 had just taken off for Atlanta when it crashed about half a mile from the runway at Blue Grass Airport. Light rain was falling at the time. The airline says 47 passengers and three crew members were aboard. Initial reports suggested all 50 had been killed, but one survivor is being treated at the University of Kentucky hospital. The patient is in critical condition.

The Fayette County coroner says the passengers and crew appeared to still be on the plane, and the deaths were caused either by the impact or the "hot fire" that followed. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate what caused the crash.
