Bass Pro Shops still committed to Pyramid location

Memphis City leaders announced Monday that Bass Pro Shops is still the frontrunner to move into the vacant Pyramid arena downtown.

At a meeting Monday morning Bass Pro Shops officials told Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton and Shelby County Mayor AC Wharton that the company was still interested in moving into the vacant arena.  Memphis officials had recently pushed for a firm commitment from the retailer.  Officials said while the deal was still moving forward, the large scale of the project was causing it to proceed slowly.

"We continue to make progress and are happy with the results of today's meeting," a Bass Pro Shops spokesperson said in a written statement. "The city, county, and Bass Pro Shops are working diligently to ensure the success of the redevelopment of the Pyramid for everyone.  We remain enthusiastic and committed to this project."

Last week, the Memphis Daily News reported that Village Roadshow, an Australian film production company, was showing interest in the arena as a possible location for a sound stage and production company.
