Man pleads guilty to killing Olive Branch woman

One of the men accused of killing an 83-year-old woman during a home invasion robbery changed his plea in court Thursday morning.  Ricky Scruggs admitted in court that he killed Anna "Maxine" Andrews in her Olive Branch home in December 2003.

Scruggs was scheduled to testify in his capital murder case, but opted out of the jury trial, pleading guilty to murder.

DeSoto County District Attorney John Champion said he offered Scruggs the same deal before the trial started.

"I had withdrawn the plea offer prior to trial because Mr. Scruggs turned it down," said John Champion, District Attorney in DeSoto County. "I advised him that I would meet with the family and let them make that decision."

Scruggs was then sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Andrews suffocated after she was bound with duct tape that had also been wrapped around her head.
