Thousands Flock to FedExForum with American Idol Hopes

The big day is here. Thousands of singers will file through FedExForum Sunday to audition for television's American Idol. With all the added visitors, and the extra traffic on a holiday weekend, Memphis police are beefing up patrols.

Security on Beale Street was heavy Saturday night. Police were out in full force with reserve officers and extra units.

Idol hopefuls we spoke with this weekend said they planned on having a quiet night in anticipation of Sunday's auditions. But once tryouts are over "I'm thinking Sunday night and Monday night are going to be ragers," said Jade Williams.

It's also a holiday weekend which means added patrols across the Mid-South. Memphis police are working with the Shelby County Sheriff's department to crack down on drunk drivers.
