Memphians prepare for Southern Heritage Classic

The Southern Heritage Classic rolls into town this weekend--Along with THOUSANDS of football fans--and their wallets.

It's pretty quiet now outside the Liberty Bowl, but this place will be ROCKIN' Saturday.

Year in and year out...the Southern Heritage Classic brings in more than 50-thousand people from all over the country.

The fan base is built around alumni...as they get together the special September weekend right here in Memphis.

The Classic pits Jackson State against Tennessee State.  The game is tomorrow night, but the events leading up to it started yesterday and will continue all the way to kick-off.

Just moments ago, we caught up with Classic founder Fred Jones.

Here's a look at the events for today and tomorrow.

Later tonight, a classic R-and-B concert starring Maze featuring Frankie Beverly and The O'Jays.  That's at the Mid-South Coliseum.

**Then Saturday, let the tailgating begin bright and early at 8am.  Also at 8, the Ed "Too Tall" Jones Golf Classic at Cottonwoods Golf Club in Tunica.
And at 10am Saturday morning, a parade down Park Avenue from Haynes to Airways.

Of course, besides the game...the other main attraction is the Battle of the Bands.

Halftime show always fun and entertaining between the JSU and TSU bands.

We'll have more on the Southern Heritage Classic tonight on Action News at 5 and 6.
