New theater offers more than just plays

A first of it's kind theater is opening this weekend in Memphis.

Organizers say when the curtain goes up at the Hattieloo Repertory Theatre on Marshall Avenue, you will see much more than plays.

Wednesday work crews were putting the finishing touches on the new theater. It will feature a variety of plays written by african americans.  Organizers say the theater will also feature plays by white, hispanic, and asian writers.

Hattieloo Repatory Theater kicks off its first season Friday night with the award winning production entitled "Home."

The theater has also been designed for use as a place to host CD music listening parties and other activities.

Organizers hope the facility can be a training ground for a whole new generation of actors and producers.
