The Shelby County Sheriff's Department released this picture Thursday of Kathryn Bowers, taken when she was booked on DUI and reckless driving charges on September 13, 2006.

An attorney for former state senator Kathryn Bowers appeared in court Thursday morning to enter a not guilty plea on her behalf.

The plea from attorney Robert Massey stemmed from an incident on I-240 last month when Bowers, driving an SUV, allegedly sideswiped a UPS truck.  Bowers was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and failure to control her vehicle.

Massey said he hoped the case would be dismissed, because Bowers was taking prescription medication for high blood pressure at the time the incident occurred.  "I would love to work out a deal for dismissal," he said.

The case will appear in front of a judge again on October 18th.

Massey will also represent Bowers in her Tennessee Waltz trial.  Bowers faces charges of accepting bribes from undercover informants.  That case is set to go to trial in federal court next April.
