BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Mississippi State got its first win of the season in dramatic fashion. Omarr Conner beat the UAB defense to the outside and jumped across the goal line for a touchdown in overtime to give the Bulldogs a 16-10 victory over the Blazers, who led most of the game.
Conner - State's third starting quarterback this season after Michael Henig was hurt in the opener - was swarmed by teammates after the 21-yard run. UAB challenged the TD call, but it stood after a video review. Conner could have either run or thrown on the play, according to State coach Sylvester Croom. "It was a designed play," said Croom. "He had a couple of options, and he picked the right one."
