Police say Houston murder suspect could be in West Memphis

West Memphis and Crittenden County authorities are searching for a murder suspect from Houston, Texas.

22-year-old Cedric Evans, who also goes by the nickname of "Pete," allegedly murdered a man at a Houston car dealership in July, and stole his SUV.

The investigation crossed state lines into West Memphis, Arkansas Thursday morning, when police found the SUV at a local motel.

"One of the occupants of the vehicle was a female, who was related to Cedric Evans," said West Memphis Police Department Assistant Chief Mike Allen.

The occupant was Evans' cousin, and police soon learned that Evans had been at his cousin's apartment in West Memphis the night before.  When police arrived at the apartment Thursday morning, Evans was not there.

Allen said he has reason to believe Cedric Evans is still in the area.  "We do know he has friends and relatives in this community and we do have an all out search for him," he said.

If you have any information, call Crittenden County Crimestoppers at (870) 732-4444.
