Tennessee troops returning from border patrol

CHATANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee National Guard troops patrolling the Mexican border are coming home. Guard spokesman Randy Harris says the troops should be home by tomorrow.

Nearly 600 soldiers have participated in Operation Jump Start -- President Bush's plan to stop illegal immigration by using soldiers to guard the border.

The troops from Tennessee helped round up about 40 to 50 illegal immigrants. They helped Border Patrol agents locate people trying to cross the border, but were NOT allowed to make arrests.

About another 1,000 Tennessee guardsmen will be likely be sent to the border between January and July of next year.
