MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Democrat Reginald Tate entered the state Senate race only two weeks ago. But now he seems like a sure bet to win.
The 52-year-old Tate wants to fill the Memphis Senate seat being vacated by Kathryn Bowers. Bowers resigned this month, citing serious health problems.
She has also been indicted in the Tennessee Waltz corruption probe.
Tate is a Democrat, and now the Republican candidate has taken his name off the ballott for medical reasons.
Attorney Michael Floyd gave notice yesterday, and now it's too late for the Republican Party to pick a new nominee.
