Woman foils burglar when she sees his shoes

It was the last thing Belinda Braddock expected.

"I was like, 'Ok, I fixin' to die,'" Braddock said.  "'so I got to kind of stay calm, 'cause if he got a gun then I don't want him to kill me.'"
Braddock was home alone Wednesday morning, when she went into her daughter's room to clean.

"I looked down, getting ready to plug the phone up, and I noticed these red and white shoes," she said.  Braddock grabbed the shoes under the bed, thinking they belonged to her son.  They weren't his.

"When I grabbed the shoes, they moved," she said.  In spite of her fear, she managed to stay calm.

"I couldn't think of nothing to do but to leave, to get away," she said.
Braddock pretended not to notice and slowly left the room, heading for her front door.  In a nervous panic, she fumbled with the locks before she could run out and call police.  Meanwhile, the burglar, who had been hiding under the bed, ran out through a back room.

As the suspect jumped from the window, Braddock peeked around the corner of the house to see who it was. She realized it was someone she knew.

"That was really the worst thing," she said. "I've known him for so long, and I just didn't think that he would do that to me."

Forrest City Police caught the suspect just a few minutes after Braddock found him under the bed.  Burglary charges against the man, who's identity has not yet been released, are pending.
