Couple charged with luring girl from Mexico for prostitution

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Federal authorities have charged a Memphis couple with luring a teenage girl from Mexico with promises of a job, then forcing her into prostitution.

Juan Mendez and Cristina Andres Perfecto are charged with child exploitation after an investigation resulted in the arrests of ten men at homes and apartments operating as brothels.

Investigators say Mendez and Perfecto enticed the girl when she was 13, telling her she could work as a waitress. Perfecto and the girl were caught twice coming across the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to an FBI affidavit, Mendez raped the girl and forced her to work in brothels in Memphis and Knoxville as well as Alabama and Kentucky.
