KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A massive fire damaged the Dougherty Engineering Building on the University of Tennessee campus this afternoon.
No one was hurt but the building appears to be heavily damaged. A fire department spokesman said at one point, the flames were shooting through the roof. Black smoke was visible for miles around the city soon after the fire started about 3 p.m.
University officials said it was an electrical fire in a lab area and damage was done to the lab and the floor above it, plus there was smoke damage elsewhere. The building is next to Neyland Stadium but the stadium was not damaged. The fire was controlled after about 30 minutes.
