Spurrier, South Carolina Arrive For Liberty Bowl

Bowl Week is officially under way. Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks are the first team to arrive. The Gamecocks arrived in Memphis around 5:30 Monday night wearing their maroon warmups. (Never a more fitting day than Christmas for the color.) The Gamecocks finished 7-5 this year in SEC play, but lost several close games, including to Florida in the closing seconds.

Spurrier, flanked by many family members says traveling with the whole gang is all part of the bowl experience. 'We got our whole family...grandkids and everything...coaches families, so that's a fun part of bowl week. Now hopefully this year we can get a win.'   Last year the Gamecocks lost to Missouri by a touchdown in the Independence Bowl.

The 48th annual Liberty Bowl is set for 3:30 Friday. Televised on ESPN, it's a big fundraiser for St. Jude Children's hospital.
