YOUR TURN: Crystal Barnes says families must do more

Now it's "Your Turn" and the Happy New Year's edition of "Your Turn" goes to Crystal Barnes.

Barnes is offering a New Year's resolution for parents. She agrees with a comment made here earlier that education is vital, but her challenge for the New Year is for parents to take more responsibility for their own children.

Barnes writes that parents need to be committed to one another and to their children. In her words, "They need to teach their children the truth of right and wrong, self-discipline, and the importance of working hard. It is not the school system's job to raise children; it is the parents' responsibility. If the family units of this city were stronger, our city would be stronger."

That's Crystal Barnes' turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email or call 901-726-0546.
