High Scoring Liberty Bowl Doesn't Disappoint

80 whopping points! That's how many South Carolina and Houston put up Friday afternoon at the 48th annual Liberty Bowl. It was 2nd highest scoring game in the bowl's history as Steve Spurrier won his first bowl game at South Carolina 44-36.

Yes they lived up to the hype alright in front of 56,103. Houston scoreed first...Kevin Kolb hit Vincent Marshall in stride for 32 yards to make it 7-0 Cougars. (386 yards and three touchdowns for Kolb).  But Blake Mitchell was just as good, he tied a bowl record with four touchdown passes, finding Sidney Rice in the 2nd quarter. Houston led 28-27 at the half...that too was a Liberty Bowl record.

Mitchell connected on two long touchdown passes in the 4th quarter to Kenny McKinnley and that sealed the deal for South Carolina. They win the 2006 Liberty Bowl 44-36.
