MY TURN: New year, new priorities?

What really matters is for families to feel safe in their homes, for people to have good jobs and for parents to be confident that their children have excellent learning opportunities in public schools.

What really matters when you think about our democratic form of government, is that we have elected officials in whom we trust and confidence that our governmental institutions are free from corruption.

Oh yeah, and a new football stadium would be nice.

A new football stadium would be nice, but a new football stadium is somewhere down the list of important priorities for the City of Memphis, if it's on the list at all.

Mayor Willie Herenton is excited about this idea and says he'll bring forward a plan in 45 days to show how we can do this.

I hope you'll join me in telling the mayor, we're interested, but there are a lot of other plans we'd like to see first.
