We understand we live in an area where violent crime is part of the fabric of our community.

We wrestle every day with the issue of whether we're spending too much time in our newscasts covering crime stories:  Are we presenting an unfair image of Memphis?

Then, we run smack into a story that hits us in the gut, the story of Raymond Brady and his wife walking their dog right in their own neighborhood. Mr. Brady was senselessly killed and police say the men who did it were responsible for a bunch of other crimes.

Here at Action News 5, we've been active participants in reporting on crimes and ways that we can all fight back against crime. But as Mr. Brady's family knows, we haven't done enough.

And so this year, Action News 5 is launching a new initiative, called Taking Back Our Neighborhoods. Click here to learn more.

We are going to live in neighborhoods where we can walk our dogs.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this editorial or anything else, email or call 901-726-0546.
