Our new initiative - Taking Back our Neighborhoods - is taking off.
We have received dozens of responses with solid ideas about things that can make a difference.
Some people wrote to tell us they were thinking about starting or restarting neighborhood watch programs. Others wrote to say they're not just thinking about it, they've already scheduled their meetings and they invited us to attend.
Obviously, the men and women who work in law enforcement are on the front lines of this effort. I'd like to commend the Memphis Police Department and the Safe Streets Task Force for the apprehension of the gang members who are charged with Raymond Brady's death. This particular crime spree came to end because of solid police work that culminated when two alert patrol officers stopped a vehicle that fit the description of one that was used in a bank robbery. Job well done.
