Memphis Senior Found Dead During Class Trip

Mitchell High School Principal John Ware was nearly at a loss for words after learning of the death of one of his students, "We've all lost a family member here."

Eighteen year old Donald Clear was one of 57 students on a Senior trip to the Royal Palms Resort and Suites in Freeport Grand Bahama.

The group had been at the hotel less than two hours Monday when Clear was found at the bottom of a pool.

CPR was unsuccessfuly performed by classmates and paramedics.

Mitchell Principal John Ware notified Clear's family Monday night, "We did meet with the family last night and we did pray with the family. We're asking the entire city to keep us in their thoughts and prayers."

Clear was a football player at Mitchell and is one of several family members to attend the school.

Classmates like Jessica Ashley learned of his death Tuesday morning, "Always was in class, was just here with a big smile every morning."

Mitchell said one thing that makes this even more sad is that these seniors worked hard to raise the five hundred dollars for the trip, "We all have some guilt in the sense that the children have worked extremely hard to be able to go and then to have something this tragic happen on your senior trip is something that can affect you the rest of your lives."

Students have met with grief counselors in the Bahamas and will do so again when they return.
