Tipton County nightclub murder solved nearly four years after the fact

Acting on tips from witnesses in other cases, Tipton County Sheriff's deputies and federal agents were able this week to break a case nearly four years old.

They indicted and arrested 40-year-old Timothy Broom of Bartlett in the murder of Michaelvelli Ransom, a Millington man shot to death in the parking lot outside Dyson's Club in eastern Tipton County on July 7, 2003.  An Independence Day celebration had been underway inside the club at the time.

The "break" surfaced in October of 2005, according to a news release from Tipton County Sheriff Pancho Chumley, when Broom was arrested on unrelated drug charges.  He admitted to the parking lot murder of Ransom two years earlier, but his claims were only recently substantiated by witnesses.
