WASHINGTON (AP) - National Guard troops from four states are receiving notice to prepare for possible deployment to Iraq.
The orders affect some 13,000 troops, and several thousand of them will be making their second tour in Iraq. The troops include personnel from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indiana and Ohio.
The Defense Department says the units will serve as replacement forces in the regular unit rotation for the war, and will not be connected to the recent military buildup for security operations in Baghdad.
The Army says one unit will deploy in December and the rest will go in 2008.
Officials say mobilization to active duty or deployment of the units will depend upon conditions on the ground in Iraq.
