MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The federal bribery trial of former state Senator John Ford continues in Memphis today.
Ford is accused of taking $55,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as crooked businessmen.
The defense says Ford is the victim of overzealous prosecution and that he thought he was being paid fees for legitimate consulting work.
Friday's testimony featured a legislative administrator who said Ford pressed hard for a change in state law that would have benefited the sham company the FBI set up as a device for investigating public corruption.
Ford was one of five current or former lawmakers indicted in Operation Tennessee Waltz.
