NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee lawmakers will vote on the latest crop of specialty license plate proposals that have themes ranging from sandhill cranes to the 101st Airborne Division.
The Senate is scheduled to vote tomorrow on a bill that would create 19 new plate designs. Any new plate must get one thousand pre-orders before it can go into production.
But the Senate is balking at a plan to create tags for retired legislators.
Democratic Leader Jim Kyle, of Memphis, said he would have a hard time voting for a plan to allow retired lawmakers to obtain specialty plates.
House Transportation Chairman Phillip Pinion said he thinks the state has too many plates. Tennessee has more than 130 specialty plates. The most popular salutes the Tennessee Titans football team.
