WALDRON, Ark. (AP) - Scott County authorities say they've arrested a woman on suspicion of first-degree murder after part of her ex-husband's body was found in a Waldron lake last week.
Police say 63-year-old Pat McClanahan of Mena killed her husband Joe Campiglia, then cut his body into pieces. A property owner found Campiglia's torso wrapped in a tarp last week while fishing at the seven-acre lake.
Scott County Sheriff Cody Carpenter says police are "pretty confident" McClanahan committed the slaying. He says McClanahan confessed to officers before police arrested her Friday night. Arkansas State Police Special Agent Ron Hitt says the slaying likely occurred in January 2003, about eight miles away from where Campiglia's torso was found.
Campiglia, a Scott County resident, was reported missing on December 4th, 2003. He would be 64 today. Hitt says the couple had been married for more than 20 years before Campiglia's death. Police continue to search the lake for evidence. McClanahan is being held in the Yell County jail.
