MY TURN: What is your "tipping point" on crime?

For many of us here at WMC-TV5, the tipping point was the murder of Raymond Brady, a man who was just out walking his dog last January.

For people who live in a nice neighborhood near Memphis Country Club, the tipping point was the violent rape of one of their neighbors last Friday.

For some of you, regrettably, your tipping point will be reached in the days ahead.

There's no point in arguing about which particular heinous crime pushes us to action. What's important is that we all realize that we cannot escape this problem with burglar bars or gated communities or more security guards.

Even if we did have the best government leadership, we still have to acknowledge that this problem cannot be solved without the involvement of many individual concerned citizens.

WMC has dedicated significant resources to the fight against crime through our "Taking Back Our Neighborhoods" initiative.

If you think there's anything we can do to help, please let us know.  If there's anything you can do to help, please do it.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email or call 800-465-1210.
