The Blue Cross Spring Fling is quickly coming to an end. But not before Memphis area Athletes take home some serious hardware. In Div. 2 boys doubles MUS wins. Will Carter and Watson George engaged in a real grudge match against Chattanooga Baylor. They lose the first set but come back to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 and with it the state title.
In Girls 3A doubles and Houston High is just cleaning up! They won the team championship earlier in the week, now Allison Hodges and Mary Caroline Hooker are the doubles champs. They beat Siegal 6-1, 6-0. Houston's Anamika Bhargava wins the girls singles title as well. She defeats Allie Beavers from Dobbins Bennett 6-1,6-2. No surprise here, Bhargava is one of the top juniors in the country.
After sending 7 mid-south schools to Murfreesboro in girls softball only 1 remained at the start of the day: the Covington Chargers in Class 2A. The Chargers lose to Camden though in the semi-finals...Rachel Cogdill drove in their first run on a fielders choice. But a 3-run home run sinks their ship.Camden wins it 4-1...a great run though for the Covington girls.
In boys 3A high jump, Marcus Rucker from Whitehaven turns in a tremendous jump of 6'4". That was good enough to win silver in a tie for second. Tyler Step from Jefferson County wins with a jump of 6'6". Houston High finished second as a team.
