It was major drama off the links for one golfer playing in the Stamford St. Jude Championship.
John Daly did well on the course Friday but his off the course problems overshadowed his appearance on the links.
Daly's appearance Friday clearly put on display several cut marks on both sides of his face from the night before.
Shelby County investigators say an argument Daly had with his wife Sherrie at the East End Grill led to violence hours later at home.
"In the early morning hours Mr. Daly was awakened allegedly being attacked and assaulted by his wife," says Steve Shular with Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
According to the sheriff's report, Daly went to sleep but his wife woke him up cutting his face with a silver steak knife.
The report says Sherrie Daly told, "I will kill you" and then called him a four letter word.
Daly responded, "Go ahead and kill me."
The report goes on to say Sherrie then took the children to a neighbor, and called police.
Fans offered Daly words of encouragement as he left the links.
Daly did release a statement saying: "My only concern at this point is for the safety of my children and myself and we are working closely with local authorities and PGA TOUR security officials to assure appropriate safeguards."
Since Daly did not press charges, his wife Sherrie was not arrested and at this point faces no criminal charges.
