This may seem like a little thing, but sometimes it is the little things that can really make you mad.
The City of Memphis operates about a dozen outdoor swimming pools. The pools were supposed to open Saturday, June 2, but city park workers couldn't get two of them open on time.
Two other city swimming pools won't open at all this summer because health department officials say they're dangerous and need to be brought up to code. So here's the problem: These pools are only open about 50 days a year. That leaves plenty of time to get them ready for summer.
The parents in these neighborhoods correctly point out there are not many good activities available to their children. City leaders should do their part to at least make sure this one activity is available when it's supposed to be.
It seems extravagant to talk about building hundred-million dollar football stadiums when we can't even get the neighborhood pools open on time.
