Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies on the other side of the law

Three Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies were arrested just this week. They're all accused of Domestic Violence.

The latest incident involves a deputy accused of beating up his girlfriend at a Tunica hotel.

John Astor is on the Fugitive Squad and is the third Shelby County Sheriff's deputy to be arrested in the past couple of days for domestic violence.

"It's very upsetting when you've got commissioned law enforcement officers especially three within the last two days that have been involved in situations like that," added Steve Shular with Shelby County Sheriff's Department."

According to a Tunica County Sheriff's Department incident report, Astor was at the Horseshoe Casino around 9:30 Tuesday night when he got into an argument with his girlfriend who works for the Shelby County D.A.'s office.

According to the report, the woman said Astor had been drinking and they started arguing after she looked at his voice mail on his cell phone.

According to this report, the woman said Astor asked her to take off his t-shirt then he grabbed her arm and threw her to the ground hitting her head and bruising her arm.

The report also says Astor threw his cell phone and broke it then took her phone and left.

Because of the three arrests in a row, employees with the Shelby County Sheriff's department will have to take a new domestic violence training program.

"We take a zero tolerance to domestic violence and we hope this new training will slack off the number of cases we've got involving our employees," added Shular.

Jon Astor has been on with the Sheriff's Department for 10 years.

In addition to Astor, two Shelby County deputies were also arrested this week on Domestic Violence charges.

Deputy James Taber is charged following an incident involving his wife and step-daughter.

And Investigators say Deputy Michael Hoard hit his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

Both are off duty with pay.
