3-Memphis Prep Stars Go to the Podium in the NBA Draft

A trio of Memphians see their NBA Dreams realized tonight..

Former Mitchell High Star Thaddeus Young hits the Lottery Jackpot as the Number-12 pick to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Breaking out of College after only 1-year at Georgia Tech, Youngs' gamble pays off with the 12th slot slated to make more than a $million and a half dollars next season.

Young will get to play with former Memphis Tigers star Rodney Carney in Philly.

So will Derrick Byers...

The Former Ridgeway High star was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers with the 42nd pick in the 2nd Round.

He later is traded to Philadelphia

Byers starred collegiately at Vanderbilt, where he won S.E.C. Player of the Year last season.

And, he may not exactly be from Memphis, but Marc Gasol did go to High School here.

That's right, i said Gasol...

It's Memphis Grizzlies star Pau Gasol's "little" Brother.

Marc, a 6'11" 275 pound Center, prepped at Lausanne Collegiate School for 2-years when Pau first came to Memphis.

Instead of going to college here in America, Marc opted to return to his native Spain and play professionally.  It worked well enough to earn a trip to the NBA Podium on Draft Night.

The Los Angeles Lakers pick Marc Gasol in the Second Round with the 48th overall pick.
