Man steals badge, gun from trooper's car, found asleep at wheel

McMINNVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A man accused of stealing a badge and gun from a parked state trooper's car was found asleep at the wheel of his car in a parking lot.

Thirty-year-old Thomas J. Reeder faces charges of burglary and theft and could face more in what deputies are calling a countywide spree of auto burglaries.

Deputies found Reeder when they responded to a call of someone passed out in a vehicle parked outside a nursing home.

The stolen badge and gun were found nearby. That prompted a thorough search of Reeder's car that uncovered stolen credit cards and other items.

Captain Tommy Myers said the discovery could be related to a rash of thefts across the county in which a burglar has broken into unlocked cars.
