NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A former Nashville video game store clerk will spend the rest of his life in prison for his conviction on 15 child rape charges.
Jeremy Duffer was sentenced yesterday to 137 years in prison.
The 36-year-old spoke for nearly a half-hour during his sentencing hearing and denied abusing the 12-year-old boy he was convicted of raping. He also says he had been abused as a child.
The victim was a boy who frequented the store where Duffer worked. Prosecutors say the assaults began when the boy was 11 years old and continuted until he was 13.
Duffer was arrested in September 2004 and released on bail with an electronic monitoring bracelet.
He went on the lam for about five months after cutting off the bracelet. Police took out billboard emblazoned with Duffer's face before he was caught working for a traveling carnival in East Tennessee.
