Grizzlies Go 2-3 In Las Vegas

The Minnesota Timberwolves were able to weather a fourth quarter surge by the Memphis Grizzlies to take home a 102-91 victory on Saturday afternoon at the COX Pavilion.

The Timberwolves held a 19-point advantage entering the final period before the Grizzles then proceeded to go on a 15-2 run to start the period. By the 5:30 mark they had trimmed the Minnesota lead to just six at 82-76, but that was a close as it got.

Point guard Randy Foye came out firing to start the game, netting 16 points in the first quarter on a perfect six-of-six shooting. The 2006 Vegas Summer League MVP ended up with a game-high 28 points (12-17 FG).

"I felt good, I went out there and played hard," Foye said of his performance today. "I took the shots when I had them and tried to get my teammates involved."

Timberwolves' forward Craig Smith and 2007 first round pick (#7 overall) Corey Brewer also had solid games. Smith registered 25 points (10-13 FG) and six rebounds in 29 minutes, while Brewer recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes.

On the other side, Rudy Gay had a team-high 26 points including 14 in the final period. In five summer league contests, Gay averaged 18.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in 32.8 minutes.

Memphis concludes the 2007 NBA Summer League with a record of 2-3 while Minnesota is 2-2 with one more contest tomorrow versus Phoenix.
